Selling Fee Calculator
Enter the sale amounts and applicable rates to see each platform deduction and the estimated payout.
Usage Tips
Match each rate to the fee basis on your payout statement
Check whether the marketplace applies its selling fee to item revenue alone or to buyer-paid shipping as well. Matching that basis, the payment processing rate, and any tax added to fees makes the calculator useful for comparing expected payouts before a sale or checking deductions afterward.
What is Selling Fee Calculator?
The Selling Fee Calculator estimates marketplace deductions and payout from item price, quantity, buyer-paid shipping, selling and payment processing rates, tax added to those fees, and a fixed order fee. It does not hard-code rates for any marketplace, so you should enter the current values shown in the applicable fee policy or payout statement.
How to Use
- 1Enter the item price, quantity sold, and shipping amount paid by the buyer.
- 2Enter the marketplace selling rate, payment processing rate, and fixed fee per order.
- 3Choose whether buyer-paid shipping belongs in the selling-fee basis and enter a fee tax rate only when tax is added separately.
- 4Review total fees, the effective fee rate, and the estimated payout after platform deductions.
Trace every deduction from buyer total to estimated payout
Last reviewed: July 24, 2026Estimated payout and effective fee rate
estimated payout = buyer total − selling fee − payment fee − tax on fees − fixed fee
The calculator starts with item revenue plus buyer-paid shipping and then subtracts each entered deduction. The selling fee uses the selected basis, the payment fee uses the buyer total, and the effective rate divides all fees by the buyer total.
Two items at $30 each with $3 buyer-paid shipping
- • Item price $30, quantity 2, buyer-paid shipping $3
- • Selling fee 10%, payment processing fee 3%, and 10% tax added to fees
- • Selling-fee basis includes item revenue and shipping, with a $0.50 fixed fee
- 1. Item revenue is $60 and the buyer total is $63.
- 2. Selling fee $6.30 + payment fee $1.89 = $8.19 in percentage fees.
- 3. Tax on fees is $0.819 and the fixed fee is $0.50, for total fees of $9.509.
- 4. Estimated payout = $63 − $9.509 = $53.491 before display rounding.
The displayed estimated payout is $53.49 and the effective fee rate is about 15.09% of the buyer total.
How to read the result
- Compare the effective rate rather than the headline selling rate because payment fees, tax on fees, and fixed charges can materially change the payout.
- Buyer-paid shipping can increase the payout while also increasing the selling-fee basis when the marketplace policy includes shipping.
Conditions that change the result
- Actual rates and deductions can vary by category, seller tier, payment method, and promotion, so the current marketplace statement remains the primary reference.
- Estimated payout is not net profit because it does not deduct product cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, advertising, or discount contributions.
Common input mistakes
- Confusing buyer-paid shipping revenue with seller-paid delivery cost changes both the fee basis and the expected payout.
- Entering a separate fee tax when the published rate already includes it causes that charge to be counted twice.
Reference Knowledge
- ●Item revenue equals item price multiplied by quantity, while buyer total equals item revenue plus buyer-paid shipping.
- ●The selling fee uses the selected fee basis, and the payment processing fee uses the full buyer total.
- ●Estimated payout = buyer total - selling fee - payment processing fee - tax added to fees - fixed order fee.
- ●Displayed amounts are rounded at the final presentation step, so a marketplace that rounds or truncates each line item may produce a different payout.
FAQ
Q.Does the calculator select rates for a marketplace automatically?
No. Rates can vary by marketplace, category, seller tier, and promotion, so the calculator requires the current rates from your fee policy or payout statement.
Q.Should shipping be included in the selling-fee basis?
It depends on the marketplace policy. Select item revenue plus shipping only when buyer-paid shipping is included in the stated selling-fee basis.
Q.What belongs in the tax-added-to-fees field?
Enter a rate only when tax is charged on top of the selling and payment fees. Leave it at zero when the published fee rates already include that tax.
Q.Why can the estimated payout differ from the actual deposit?
The marketplace may use different rounding rules or deduct promotions, advertising, withholding, reserves, or other adjustments that were not entered here. Confirm the final amount on the payout statement.
Q.Is the estimated payout the same as net profit?
No. It is the expected amount after the entered platform deductions, before product cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, and other operating expenses.
